United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)
United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) opened its office in Moscow in 1997 to help uphold the rights of 30 million children to a safe, healthy, caring and happy childhood. UNICEF pursues this objective by promoting the protection of children’s rights, and assisting families, government, and civil society in meeting their basic needs.
UNICEF has three main health programmes in Russia: “Early Childhood Development”, “Young People’s Health and Development. HIV/AIDS”, and “Children in Need of Special Protection”. UNICEF works in agreement and collaboration with the government of the Russian Federation, regional administrations, and leading Ministries of Health and Social Development, Education, & Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The programmes are implemented with government and non-governmental organizations and with youth participation.
