Collaboration with Tyumen Oblast Health Department in HIV Prevention Campaign
The Institute for Family Health has signed a State Contract with the Tyumen Oblast Health Department on implementation of the regional HIV Prevention Project funded by the Regional government.
IFH is the leading Russian organization, implementing measures on HIV prevention with the main focus on prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission (PMTCT) as well as on the reproductive rights and health needs of HIV-positive population. For several years, IFH has been putting PMTCT activities into practice with the National Health Project (see reference). Under the Project, the IFH specialists have developed various clinical, operational and informational materials, many of which were approved by the Russian Ministry of Health and Social Development and the Federal Service of the Russian Federation for Surveillance in Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor), and distributed in all Russian regions by national funds (see reference). In 2009, IFH completed the PMTCT Study in 5 regions including Tyumen Oblast and provided valuable data for decision-making in development of HIV prevention programs (see reference).
In 2010, jointly with the Tyumen Oblast Health Department and Educational Department, IFH will conduct activities, aimed at improving the knowledge and skills of the population (with special focus on youth) in HIV prevention through mass-media campaigns, community involvement and an educational program in schools. The activities will include seminars for journalists and teachers, a mass public event devoted to the World AIDS Day, development and distribution of informational materials on HIV prevention.
To attract the public attention to HIV/AIDS issues and to improve knowledge of the broad medical community, IFH and the Tyumen Oblast Health Department will conduct an Oblast Conference, in which famous national experts will be involved.
