ACOG is a private, voluntary, nonprofit organization. Among its 52,000 members are the chairmen and staff members of obstetrics and gynecology departments in various colleges and universities, scientists, clinics directors and practicing doctors. More than 90% of the US obstetricians and gynecologists participate in ACOG, including famous and experienced doctors as well as young medical universities graduates. You can hardly imagine a practicing obstetrician-gynecologist, not being a member of ACOG.
ACOG works primarily in the following areas:
· Increasing the quality of medical care provided for women, serving as a strong advocate for quality health care, stimulating patients’ involvement in medical care;
· Maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice;
· Analyzing and summarizing the scientific data;
· Investigating disputable clinical situations, providing the doctors with necessary assistance in case of legal prosecution;
· Providing educational services for the professionals;
· Keeping the members and the public informed of the most important issues in the field of women's health care.

The ACOG representatives were very glad to share their professional experience with the Russian colleagues and to ensure access to their informational resources. It became clear that both parties were genuinely interested in successful implementation and promotion of joint initiatives and in further extension of professional cooperation, aimed at improving women’s health both in Russia and in the United States. During the visit, the priority partnership areas as well as concrete future cooperation plans were discussed.
