Modern Principles of Newborn Resuscitation Care
The Modern Principles of Newborn Resuscitation Care seminar was conducted in Dubna, Moscow Oblast. Specialists from Klin, Mytishchi, Dmitrov, Dubna, Elektrostal and other cities of Moscow Oblast participated in the seminar.
The seminar plan was developed by the Institute for Family Health (IFH) leading specialists on the basis of international standards. It combined both theoretical trainings and practical skills enhancement. The seminar involved simulator trainings to enhance newborn resuscitation skills, which turned out to be particularly interesting for the participants. During the simulator trainings, obstetricians-gynecologists, neonatologists, pediatricians and anesthesiologists were able to practice in various clinical cases; they took an active part in role games, and solved situational tasks.
Dr. Elena Safronova, the IFH leading specialist and the IBP MCH expert, says:
“The seminar’s main advantage was the use of simulators that made it possible to practice in various clinical situations. Unfortunately, in reality a doctor has no possibility to train, to try, to experiment: if it is a matter of life and death, a doctor must be ready to find the only possible solution at once. Simulator trainings help the doctors acquire all the necessary practical skills. The seminar participants work in small groups, they learn to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), to use breathing bags and masks, to intubate, to inject medicaments. They also have the possibility to use simulators instead of real babies during the trainings. It offers the possibility to perform the necessary actions automatically, to improve the quality of the work, to strengthen and to enhance newborn resuscitation care skills”.
The seminar participants’ comments on the seminar show, how efficient and valuable the acquired skills are:
… “The training was undoubtedly useful. The ideas about resuscitation care, infection control and antimicrobial therapy have changed dramatically”.
… “The seminar was very useful: it helped the doctors acquire the necessary professional skills that, for its part, made it possible to significantly improve the provided care”.
… “The seminar’s main advantages were very rich theoretical and evidential basis and efficient simulator trainings. Such activities should be conducted more often. The duration of the trainings should be increased, and the list of discussed topics should be extended”.
… “The life of a small baby depends on our professional competence. The newborn resuscitation care seminars should be conducted at least once a year. Your seminars stimulate the doctors’ professional advancement”.
At the end of the training course all the participants received the certificates of participation in the Modern Principles of Newborn Resuscitation Care seminar.
